woke up in a beam of sunlight.
this is becoming a nicely regular occurrence since i started sleeping with the curtains partially open. started painting intensively again today. which was difficult after such a long break. primed up 50 canvasses this morning. i'm not going to waste them, but i do want to produced a serious amount of work in accordance with a theory i am developing as a potential resource for self help. which i don't doubt isn't particularly interesting, but it's quite an exciting idea if i can persevere with it. anyway this is all a bit vague.
so i primed canvasses, finished yet another draft of my thesis. of which my tutor said "mike, reading this thesis is akin to the first time i heard the beatles".
anyway i'm tired and not feeling much like writing on here at the moment.
Like it. like everything about it.
The outsider art website bears the quote “We support an art created by the people ...simple, sincere and structural, an art wherein the designer and craftsman are one and the same individual, creating for pleasure and unassailed by commercialism. It is right that all men (people) should have work which shall be worth doing, and be pleasant to do; and which should be done under such conditions as would make it neither over wearisome nor over anxious.” (credited as being “from the craftsman 1901”)

new unfired cubes
worked hard on these. weirdly something about it is incredibly sad. i think it's that the way i painted will not actually survive. it might morph into something else in the kiln but in a way i feel sad that it won't be as it is anymore. but that's stupid really.
read this and thought it was interesting and relevant
"Ceramics is now an officially designated 'endangered subject'."
GP said it mattered because the loss of practical skills left art to "that'll do" conceptual artists "with no clue as to when something is well done or not."I think hands-on traditional skills are very important in a visual arts world that is becoming increasingly weightless and slapdash."The digital generation need to have a go at something messy and difficult to remind them that you cannot always change the world or build a career at the press of a button."Students need to experience a craft which has venerable technical standards to compare themselves against."

You who are about to be worked on we salute you
We worked all morning on pots, painting to cubes while iris played beautiful piano and the went to the pub for lunch and then worked the rest of the afternoon.
These cubes are going to have consderably more effort on the painting that the last 3 because I want to try and make it brilliant.
