painting until 3am
Recently i've been exploring the relationship between environment and subject. I have been looking at the use of contrast in area, and in specifics. So areas of dark and unsettling colours but with contrasting areas of bright, vibrant colours. These are on occasions also peppered with areas of improvised white dry brush distribution with the idea to add significance to other areas. I'm not only gaining inspiration from the living landscape of our environment, but also becoming aware that fantasy is restricted to the world we live in, and in some peoples minds it become such a disconnected possibility that life becomes dulled and grey. This is not a terminal condition, because of the attainability of music, love and good food. While i don't want to get to bogged down in a philosophical debate around the concept of a human soul, i will say that the impact of the human spirit and human body's functionality on a spiritual and emotional level are deeply affected by music, food and positive emotional stimuli is totally unavoidable. I guess i'm letting the colour narrative lead via music, personal mood and temperature. the ink work narrative is non linear process which interlocks with the paint narrative, while exploring new visual language. Unless the stages are met on different days they can produce a consistent and well intentioned painting that achieves my intended objectives.
